Named after the revered warrior King of Belgium, Ambiorix (meaning ‘Rich King’) is a symbol of strength, resilience and excellence – qualities woven into every shoe we create.
Today, Ambiorix is a luxury shoe brand renowned for its craftsmanship and timeless style, but its beginnings were much humbler. In 1895, Louis Steyns first started his shoe factory in Verviers. He was also the first in Belgium to adopt a revolutionary soling technique. Due to persistent labor issues, the Steyns family decided to move the company to Tongeren in 1907. There, Ambiorix quickly established itself as a hallmark of quality shoes, soon becoming a leading shoe manufacturer in Belgium.
In 2007, under the new leadership of Peter Vavedin, the company was reborn, both in spirit and in image. The logo was redesigned with a stylized “X,” with one leg shaped like a sword.
With over 130 years of tradition and dedication to quality, Ambiorix has firmly established itself as a leader in the footwear industry. From its modest beginnings in Verviers to becoming Belgium’s leading shoe manufacturer in Tongeren, Ambiorix continues to uphold its legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and innovation, producing 100,000 pairs annually – each pair a testament to Ambiorix’s commitment to the finest shoe-making techniques.

Ambiorix has been specialising in bespoke shoemaking services for the last 130 years, and excels in crafting made-to-measure shoes. For those seeking this ultimate luxury, we offer a wide variety of choices from type of shoe, model, colour, outsole, size, materials (exterior and interior) with Ostrich, Cordovan and reptile options also available and many other customised elements. We deliver within just four weeks! We also offer a range of matching accessories to complete the picture.
Thanks to local production and a flexible organization, this service is now available in India too. Our master fitter and craftsman, Mr. Jef Van De Beek brings over 45 years of experience to each custom-made pair. Mr. Van De Beek visits India twice a year, and appointments must be booked in advance to ensure an exclusive fitting.
